Employeeeeee

This week, I was offered a job. This week, I accepted the job. I am much pleased.
Essentially I am working for a media company and will be handling all of the media and material associated with advertising and the company's profile in order to improve sales and awareness, something I am pretty sure I will be able to achieve and though I start on Monday, I have already made quite a list of notes to work from. It's a part-time position which means I will be able to keep up with my journalism and script writing and other shinanigans.

Other than that, I am still waiting to see if I have been accepted fully onto the teaching course for September. The course if full-time, which may present some problems with my job if I do get on and start but they have said they would be flexible in regards to my hours once I know the company and what I am doing so hopefully things will be on the up soon.

My test-script is coming along nicely, apart from the slight writer's block which I intend to batter down with copious amounts of olives, jelly babies, chocolate piggies and ginger beer, as well as anything by Douglas Adams as he often provides me with inspiration.

Whether or not the weather is changing.

In moments of nostalgia, we an look back at childhood and remember bright, sunny days spent tin the countryside, getting sunburn, eating ice cream and sweating profusely. To think back five years ago and the weather was much the same, though summer seemed slightly shorter and not so hot. Many would suggest this is the result of growing up not climate change and that no days are as good as the old days.

Then 2011 came along and the total number of days of real summer weather probably amount to around three weeks, before the season abruptly ended and we were thrown once again back into Autumn. Cloudy days, almost constant rain and porridge for breakfast to warm yourself up are one grain of rice in the packet. Tsunamis, famine, drought: they are all in the news of late as well as the ever looming melting ice caps and rising sea levels which have become the cornerstone of the global warming march.

Yet there are those who still insist that nothing is changing, that it is all environmental propaganda and that if the world was heating up, why all the rain? Without becoming too scientific, heat makes water evaporate, water vapour makes clouds, clouds rain. Haven't you been caught in the summer rains on an uncomfortably hot day?

Summer time is one of the few things I like about this country but it looks as thought that will soon be gone leaving me clinging to the nice architecture, traditional institutions and Stephen Fry as the only things I can speak proudly of about Britain.

Inappropriate Professional

After a few days of attempted celebration and congratulations, I am back at my desk, returning to the near endless task of emailing out C.V.s, hunting for applications and writing whatever I can whenever I can. I have finally submitted my paperwork for the post-grad teaching course, very late and I hope to god they accept it, I would enjoy being given the chance to teach media.

Until something happens though, I shall write and write and write and eat and giggle inappropriately whenever the chance should arise.

Bah-day!

Today is my birthday, a day I acknowledge and admire for the gifts but otherwise try an get through as quickly as possible. Yes, I can make time move faster.

Meh

Today was my graduation ceremony. It was ok.
That is all.

I'm certainly unsure.

This week is going to be busy. Friday will be graduation, Saturday will be my birthday and on Thursday, I have been offered an interview..... hmmmm.

My uncertainty surrounding the interview is that it is only a two month contract. Under normal circumstances I would take the job and then continue searching afterwards with another hole in my C.V. belt, but this September I may be starting a teaching course. I don't know when the job starts so it may be the end of July start of August which places the end date precariously close to, or after, the start date of the teaching course. If I was to be offered the job I could be back here in two months having closed a door to a useful qualification. This may take some pondering and more information.

Until then I shall eat lunch, write and stare out of the window looking for inspiration of things to do other than clean the house which I'm not particular fond of doing unless the mood is upon me.

Gradu-nation

It is that time of year again where thousands of former students have the privilege of donning large black robes and walking across a platform in front of people they don't know and will never see again: graduation.

This year, on Friday 15h July, it will be my turn to suffer. As many have said, I don't take compliments well, I'm never sure what to say in return or do with them, my ego is large enough to keep me feeling good about myself at the best of times but when someone compliments me, I come to a stand still and have no idea what to do. Criticism I can work with, use or argue against, something develops from it, but compliments, they just acknowledge that I am doing well and headed in the right direction which is always welcome but I have no idea where to go from there.

I have often been queried as Asperger's and it wouldn't surprise me if I was as the majority of the signs are there, so forgive me if I appear awkward and uncomfortable during the day. I will be enjoying it at some level but to me, it will be a large, unwieldy compliment.

A long, long time ago...

It's been a while since I posed anything in here. Since my last ramble I have been to the BBC for some more work experience, I have graduated and am now stuck in the middle of nothing trying to find a media job, which is difficult with the government making people redundant left, right and centre. It doesn't help either that a lot of companies now seem to want to hire very experienced people for love level, entry positions - get as much as you can for as little money - and other companies expect you to work for free. I've had to I have worked with previously in paid positions comeback to me asking me to do the same job but unpaid. I laughed and said no.

To keep myself sane as the search continues, I have got back into script writing in the form of The Hitchhiking Bards. Hopefully the four of us will be able to put together a few decent scripts and if we are very lucky, have something bought or produced. Ah but to dream a dream on cloudy day.
